Why Choose a Midwife?

Midwives are medical providers who specialize in natural normal birth. They work with women and their families throughout pregnancy, childbirth and in the weeks following birth. They have the skills and tools necessary to care for healthy women with low risk pregnancies.

Women can expect one-on-one attention during birth and high quality prenatal and postpartum care. Visits are scheduled with ample time to address questions and concerns. Midwives provide care that focuses on health promotion, education and shared decision making. Their actions are guided by the Midwifery Model of Care which includes:

  • Monitoring the physical, physiological and social well-being of the mother throughout the childbearing cycle.
  • Providing the mother with individualized education, counseling and prenatal care, continuous hands-on assistance during labor and delivery and postpartum support.
  • Minimizing technological interventions.
  • Identifying and referring women who require obstetrical attention.

In Washington state, midwives are licensed by the Department of Health. They have an outstanding record of providing great care and are committed to the safety of mothers and babies.
